CAN 2008 Hosting In Trouble?

Ministry Allays Fears

Several months after winning the hosting rights to the 2008 African Nations Cup, Ghana has yet to begin construction work on two new stadia proposed in the winning bid document.

Ghana has barely three years to complete the two new venues Sekondi and Tamale, as well as, rehabilitate the Accra and Kumasi stadia.

There are growing fears within the Local Organising Committee at the lull in preparations for the event.

But acting minister of state in charge of sports, Rashid Bawah, insists there is no cause for alarm.

He told Joy Sports that the right structures would be duly established on time for the continental soccer showpiece.
