C/R Inter-Basic Schools Sports Festival opens

Winneba,(C/R) Aug. 1, GNA - The 17th Central Region Inter-Districts Basic Schools Sports Festival has opened at the Winneba Secondary School at Winneba on Monday.

The six-day festival being attended by all the 13 districts is being organised by the Central Region Schools Sports Association to select a team to represent the region at the forth-coming Inter-Basic Schools Sports Festival scheduled for Tamale in the Northern Region in September this year.

The participants would take part in Table tennis, Volleyball, Soccer, Netball, Athletics and Cross-Country. The District Chief Executive for the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District, Mr. Solomon Abam-Quaye and the District Director of Education, Mr. Helen Arkoh jointly opened the festival.

Mr Abam-Quaye in an opening address, urged the athletes to comport themselves and adhere to the rules and regulations of the festival adding that he expects them to exhibit good sportsmanship to enable the region select a formidably team.

In the opening soccer match, Awutu-Effutu-Senya District beat Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District 2-0.

Bismarck Doomson and Alhaji Yesifu scored in the 15th and 65th minutes to carry the day for their side.
