Asante Kotoko head coach Charles Kwablan Akunnor was left unimpressed by his outfit and has back them to improve despite beating third-tier side Unicorn FC 2-0 at Essipong Sports Stadium as part of their preparations ahead of the upcoming CAF Confederations Cup.

The Porcupine Warriors have been drawn against a Cameroonian opposition in the preliminary round of the 2018/19 CAF inter-club competition and have intensified preparations as uncertainty still surrounds the resumption of the top-flight following the investigative piece by ace journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas on corruption in Ghana football.

Obed Owusu came off the bench to assist both goals scored by Martin Antwi and Jordan Opoku in the second half as the 44-year-old gaffer introduced a second set of players.

However, he wasn't happy with his players' performance in the first half stating that they lacked cohesion.

‘I knew that because we have a lot of new players in friendly matches the cohesion will not be there. But it was a little bit surprised the way we played.’ C.K Akonnor said.

‘Even though we are new and we have a number of old players among them the first half was very poor in terms of cohesion and team spirit.’ he added.

Kotoko first half starting line-up against Unicorn:

GK Muntari Tagoe; Amos Frimong, Ismail Ganiyu, Agyemang Badu, Evans Owusu; Maxwell Baakoh, Umar Bashiru, Kwame Bonsu, Prince Acquah; Safiu Abdul Fatawu, Frederick Boateng.

In the second half number one goalkeeper Felix Annan replaced Tagoe whilst Augustine Sefah, left back Abass Mohammed, Wahab Adams and Ismail Ganiyu formed the back four.

In midfield were veterans Daniel Nii Adjei, Jordan Opoku who replaced Bashiru and Bonsu respectively as Douglas Owusu Ansah and Emmanuel Gyamfi also took the places of Baakoh and Acquah and Obed Owusu and Martin Antwi played as the strikers.

However, the former Ghana international has back his players to improve on Wednesday when they face fellow Premier League side Medeama SC at the same venue for another friendly match.

‘Of course, I want to see improvement on Wednesday against Medeama,’ Akunnor said.
