Bright Start For Ghana's Rugby Team

The national rugby team, Golden Stars, began their Africa Cup of Nations campaign on a sound note with a 29-8 routing of their Mauritanian counterparts in the opening group game played in Bamako, Mali on Tuesday.

In all, eight countries namely, Benin, Cameroun, Mauritania, Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Togo and the host nation are taking part in the October 5-13 tournament.

The Ghanaians were due to play Cameroun yesterday and will honour their third match against Togo tomorrow.

The Stars will attempt another triumph over the Togolese whom they recently whitewashed 25-7 in an international friendly staged at the Accra stadium in preparation for the on-going competition. And for the Togolese, tomorrow’s game will be regarded as a match of vengeance after their painful experience at the hands of their Ghanaian counterparts.

The Stars are looking forward to succeeding at the Bamako tournament in a bid to gain international recognition.
