Bortey: Hearts can win Ghana Premier League

Former Hearts of Oak playmaker Bernard Don-Bortey is confident of the club’s chances of lifting the 2015-16 Ghana Premier League title.

The Phobians will enter the new season, slated to kick off on February 20, on the back of a disappointing outing in 2014-15 campaign.

In arguably one of their worst periods in history, the 20-time Ghana champions finished the campaign on 13th, just a place above the relegation zone.

“I think this team can win the league title for all Phobians in the coming season to end our seven-year trophy drought,” Bortey told Adom Sports.

“Anything is possible, and that’s why we watch football. You can’t rule them out as champions. This team could beat everyone from now until the end of the season.

“The players are young, the squad is strong and I think things will be turned around with the fans solidly behind them.”

“They can be champions if the supporters can throw their support behind them like they did for us during our time with the club.”

Bortey was a member of the Accra-based side that lifted the 2004 Caf Confederations Cup.

He also represented Ghana at the 1997 Fifa Under-17 World Cup in New Zealand.

Led by Japanese coach Kenichi Yatsuhashi, the Phobians stepped up preparations for the coming season with a 2-0 defeat of Nigerian side Ifeanyi Ubah in a friendly fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
