RTU Hold Kotoko

A 90th minute equalizer by Mohammed Baker put Real Tamale United (RTU) on level terms with Kumasi Asante Kotoko when they met at the Tamale Kaladan Park, in a seventh week One Touch League match on Sunday. It was the first home match for RTU as a result of a three match home ban due to club violence in the last season.

Kwabena Dodzi of Kotoko silenced RTU and their teeming supporters when he found the net on 65 minutes after connecting a cross from the left.

The two sides entertained the spectators with accurate passes and a good display of soccer but could not find the net after creating several scoring chances in the first half.

RTU had many scoring chances than the visitors in the first half but Isaac Amoako, goalkeeper of Kotoko stood between RTU scorers and victory, while Mohammed Abu in post for RTU also denied Kotoko some good opportunities to score.

Aziz Ansah nearly increased the tally to two for Kotoko when he had a neat cross from Sammy Addo but instead of shooting into the net, he delayed for an RTU defender to clear the ball from danger. The danger of conceding another goal sparked on the home lads who mounted and sustained pressure on Kotoko with a quarter of an hour remaining.

It yielded the desired result on the stroke of full time when Mohammed Baker made no mistake by connecting the ball home from a corner kick.

RTU nearly made it two from another corner kick in added time but Isaac Amoako was spectacular in goal for Kotoko. Mr. Peter Banna, match commissioner speaking to the GNA Sports after proceedings described the match as "the finest" in this year's GT One Touch Premier League so far and that the two sides played very well and deserved to split the points.

But Opoku Afriyie, the stop gap coach of Kotoko said his side deserved to win and if they did not relaxed at the tail end of the match they would have run home with victory.

An official of RTU told the GNA Sports that the Muslim fasting took a toll on his boys and added, "now that we have resumed play on our own park, no team can beat us here."

Generally, the match was calm and there was no crowd violence as it used to be when RTU hosted big teams like Kotoko, Hearts and AshGold.
