Ghana new boy Richmond Boakye-Yiadom has pledged to give off his best to the national team after making his debut on Sunday for the Under-20 team.

The Genoa attacker played a part in Ghana's 4-0 thumping of Namibia in the qualifying for the 2011 African Youth Championship in Libya.

Boakye-Yiadom insists he is ready to play anywhere in coach Orlando Wellington's side as Ghana who were African champions two years ago before winning the World Cup in Egypt the same year look to reach such high standards again.

"It was very nice getting the chance to be part of the team and also playing in the game which was my first for the national team. I am so happy to play for my nation," the 17 year-old attacker told www.ghanafa.org.

With a first game now in the bag, the Genoa player is craving for more as the Black Satellites prepare for the return game in Windhoek next weekend.

"It was a special moment for me getting to play but now I am expecting to play some more games. I enjoyed myself but I want to help the team qualify first," he said.

A solid performance which translated into the four-nil win capped a good start for the player who credits his colleagues for ensuring that his debut went well and says the team's character has left an impression on him.

“We were playing at home before our fans so it was very important to give off our best. Everyone was working for each other and I liked the attitude of my mates.

"This is the first game and I liked how things went. The coach's methods were good and the general atmosphere of togetherness is something which is and would be good for the team in the future. It was a good experience."

Last season, Boakye-Yiadom, who is highly regarded at Genoa shot to prominence when he scored his debut goal in the Italian Serie A side's 1-1 draw against Livorno.

Now the attacker hopes his stint with the national team would add more value to his young career.

“Playing for the national team is key because it will certainly boost my value. But I always have to put in the hardwork first before I can get a call up. I want to work hundred percent, win my place in the team and help Ghana win something special.”
