Ghanaian striker Richmond Boakye-Yiadom came off the bench to score for Red Star Belgrade in their 3-1 victory over Olympiacos in the UEFA Champions League.
Boakye-Yiadom who was introduced to the game in the 62nd minute had to wait till the 90th minute to bag the goal that sealed the victory for Belgrade.
Semedo’s first half strike shot Olympiacos in the lead but Vulic drew parity with a thumping header in the 58th minute.
Red Star made it 2-1 three minutes to full time before Boakye-Yiadom slotted home his first goal of this season’s Champions League to give Belgrade their first win of the season.
Speaking after the game, an excited Boakye-Yiadom expressed gratitude to his teammates and God for the goal as well as the team’s victory.
‘I’m happy and I thank God for giving me the first goal in the Champions League. Its amazing and great feeling to head the ball and watch it enter the net. All credit go to the almighty God. Without him there is no Boakye-Yiadom so I’m really grateful. I also want to thank Ghanaians for their prayers”, he said.
