Boahene relishes exciting Rugby Gala

Accra, Dec. 3, GNA - Frank Boahene, chairman of the Greater Accra Rugby Association (GARA) is convinced his outfit's special Rugby Gala, fixed for Sunday, December 5, at the El-wak Stadiun, Accra will be an exciting one for the followers of the sport in Ghana.

He told the GNA Sports that, the Gala, which also forms part of preparations toward the Confederation of Africa Rugby (CAR) Congress in Ghana, will be used to sensitize people on the sport as well as create the needed public awareness for the congress. The Congress will be held at Airport West Hotel from December 8 to 12, 2010.

"The Gala will also create a platform for the commencement of Greater Accra Rugby League next year, as clubs will use the opportunity to test their preparedness for the competition." He said.

Boahene said, clubs have already commenced registration for the Greater Accra Rugby League, adding that, the competition will ensure the rapid development of the sport in Ghana, by unearthing Rugby talents. He said seven clubs will compete for honours in the one day event, which will see Oguaman Ocean Warriors, Abura Bomber Rugby Academy from Cape Coast, Florent Academy, Accra Sharks Rugby Club, University of Ghana Rugby team, Dansoman Hurricanes and Accra Warriors testing their strength. According to GARA boss the ultimate winner will take home a trophy and an attractive cash prize.

The event will be under the auspices of Green Grass Technology, GLICO Insurance, Accra Breweries Limited, Pro Security and Standard Water. 03 Dec. 10
