Boadi confirmed for Glo Half-Marathon

LAGOS Half-Marathon defending women champion, Ghana's Millicent Boadi has confirmed she would be available on Decenber 8 to defend her title at the Glo-sponsored event.

Boadi won the title last year but the Ghanaian has revealed her desire to come back to defend her title as well as become the inaugural winner of the event under a different sponsor.

Last year Boadi went home with less than $10,000 as prize money for winning but this time she stands to go back to Accra with as much as $50,000 if she successfully defends her title.

Athletic Federation of Nigeria (AFN) Technical and Performance Director, Superintendent of Police Sunday Bada told the media that Boadi has promised to retain her title not minding the fact that the competition this time will be tougher because of the unprecedented $50,000 prize money at stake.

''I think we are going to have one of the most competitive half-marathon races in the world on December 8. Last year we didn't get the kind of top quality athletes we have confirmed for this year because of the prize money. Thanks to our sponsors, Globacom, we have been able to attract some of the biggest names in the event for the Lagos event,'' he said.
