The Black Stars of Ghana will pocket $4.5 million in prize money if they are able to win the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

The four time winners have been pooled in Group F alongside defending champions Cameroon, Benin and Guinea Bissau.

Kwesi Appiah’s men will be looking to end Ghana’s 37-year wait for an AFCON title after three missed chances in 1992, 2010 and 2015.

Ghana will open their campaign against Benin on June 25, four days before facing Cameroon, whom they lost to in the semi-final of the last championship.

The Black Stars’ last game will be against Guinea-Bissau on July 2.

All the countries competing at this summer’s Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt will receive at least $600,000 each, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced following the draw that took place in Cairo on Friday, April 12.

For the first time in the history of the competition, 24 teams are participating and this will bring additional revenue to CAF.

And according to CAF President, Ahmad Ahmad, the winner will pocket $4.5m in addition to the trophy they will raise on July 19.

”Obviously, we increased the prize money for the competition,” Ahmad Ahmad said to Radio France International.

Defending champions Cameroon pocketed $4 million for winning the 2017 AFCON, runners-up Egypt received $2 million while Burkina Faso and Ghana, the two semifinalists, took home $1.5 million each.
