The Ghana Sports Ministry has finally recompensed the Black Stars with $10,000 each as win bonuses for the teams effort in thrashing Mauritius by 7-1 in the AFCON 2017 opener at the Accra Stadium on June 14 this year.
The team had still not received the traditional reward going into the Rwanda game but sources close to the ministry have told Sports Crusader that Avram Grant’s men were paid $10,000 each before they took to the pitch in Kigali.
There were earlier reports about a purported move by the Ministry of Youth and Sports to announce a drastic cut in the winning bonuses of the Black Stars after the Mauritius win due to the country’s prevailing economic hardship. In the proposed plans, the current $10,000 winning bonus was to be cut by 50 percent to $5,000.
But Sportscrusader.com can confirm that there has not been any reduction in the team’s reward package as widely rumoured.
Meanwhile, the sports ministry is yet to settle the Stars win bonus for the Rwanda victory.
