President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Kwabena Yeboah has charged Black Stars players to demonstrate to Ghanaians that they are playing for the national team because of money.

The once flamboyant Black Stars have lost massive following since the appearance fee saga in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The leadership of the playing body has, on numerous occasions, called on Ghanaians to put behind what happened in Brazil and support the team.

But the fans are still not throwing their weight behind the team, and Kwabena Yeboah thinks the players should prove their remorseful attitude with their actions.

"The Black Stars should do well to accept whatever the state offers them; and I have put into context, if they are earning $10,000 for instance and the state feels that we're cash-strapped, and we have a perilous financial situation for which reason we believe that our national purse can offer $5,000, the players should not threaten over that.

“They should not be fighting (us) over that," Kwabena Yeboah said in an interview with Joy FM in reaction to Andre Ayew's comments.

"I think that within the context of the national purse, whatever we offer them I think they should accept that in good faith and serve the nation because players are quick to let the whole nation understand the fact that they are not playing for the money, and I want to believe that they will prove it to Ghanaians," Kwabena Yeboah continues.
