Black Stars job interview: Le Guen enters the frame

The puzzle over the identity of the third applicant to be interviewed for the vacant job of the Ghana senior national team appears to be ‘solved’ as the name of Frenchman Paul Le Guen strongly comes up.

The name of Belgian coach Hugo Broos has been a consistent feature in media reports despite being contracted to African champions Cameroon, a move football authorities have told starrsportsgh.com was unlikely due to his status.

Le Guen, a former player now 55, came close to the Nigeria job in 2016 but reports claimed his unwillingness to accept to be given targets as well as live in the West African nation among other reasons saw the move aborted.

Le Guen has already experienced the African terrain after leading Cameroon to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

He has coached top French clubs Rennes, Lyon and Paris Saint-Germain as well as Scottish giants, Rangers.

Le Guen handled the Oman national team for four years until he got relieved of his duties in November 2015 after a difficult start to their World Cup qualifying campaign.

Meanwhile, his compatriot Willy Sagnol touched down Accra late Thursday night after a delayed flight and is set to be the first coach to face the six-man interview panel of the Ghana Football Association on Friday.

The Ghana FA at the time of filing this report was yet to officially release the list of coaches to be interviewed though has indicated through its President, Kwesi Nyantakyi that the exercise is kick-starting.

Kwesi Appiah, who led Ghana to the 2014 World Cup, is also be on the list after reportedly being headhunted for the job.
