Ghana midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has reiterated the Black Stars' desire to win the Africa Cup of Nations after a 33-year drought.

The West Africans won the last of their four titles at Libya 1982, suffering a series of near misses since then, including last year's final penalty defeat to Cote d'Ivoire in Equatorial Guinea.

Ghana beat Mauritius 2-0 on Sunday to secure a ticket to the 2017 edition slated for Gabon.

"We are really hungry for the Afcon trophy," Badu told Asempa FM.

"We know Ghanaians really need it and we equally need it.

"Just after our game with Mauritius, we knew the attention has now turned on [winning] the trophy.

"We know it's not going to be easy but we are equally hungry for it."

Like Andre Ayew in the past days, the Udinese man also pleaded for the nation's total backing in their quest for continental glory, following the disappointment from the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil.

"We need the prayers of all Ghanaians to clinch the ultimate," he said.

“We all admit things didn’t go well in Brazil and Ghanaians are still angry, but we want them to know that we are sorry and that we need them.

“Without support from Ghanaians, we can’t do anything, so I want to use this opportunity to plead on [the team's] behalf.

“Things have really changed and that is killing us, we need the support to win titles.”

Ghana have reached the semi-finals of the last five Afcon tournaments.
