Black Stars farewell match in danger?

The farewell match between the Black Stars and a local select side also known as the dream team scheduled for the Accra Sports Stadium on May 23, 2014 may suffer a hitch as traditionalists of the Osu State have placed a ban on drumming and noise making in their area of jurisdiction which include the Accra Sports Stadium.

The event is being organized by Prime Val Consult and has been sanctioned by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) as part of the national team’s preparations towards the Word Cup.

Among the sponsors willing to be part of the match are Unibank, Accra Brewaries Limited, United Television, ddp, Huawei and Special Ice.

The media partners are Okay FM, Peace FM, Neat FM, Hello FM, UTV, Asempa FM, Peacefmonline, Happy FM, Hello FM, SuperSport and GTV.

Rates for the match has been pegged at 30.00ghc for VVIP, 20.00 for VIP Upper, 15.00 for VIP Lower, 10.00ghc for Osu Stand and 5.00ghc for Popular Stand. According to the organisers, there would be entertainment to keen fans alive during the match with Castro, Shatta Wale and others performing, but the ban on drumming and noise making may affect the game unless there is no noise at the event.

The Black Stars will feature players drawn from the 26 man squad who will represent Ghana at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil, while the dream team will comprise players from the CHAN where the local Black Stars placed second with players like Abeiku Ainooson, Nuru Sulley, Atobra, sensational Premiership Player of the Year, Augustine Okrah and George Owu who were nominated by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) at the 39th Awards Night.

Sports fans will recall that a big sporting event, the Judgment Night fight between Ayitey Powers and Bukom Banku suffered a similar hitch until the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) had audience with the traditional leaders and there was an agreement.

Meanwhile, players of the Black Stars have started arriving for the camping in Accra. Some players spotted by yours truly are Jerry Akaminko, Samuel Inkoom, Harrison Afful, Rashid Sumaila and goalkeeper Fatau Dauda.
