Black Stars coach: Search C’ttee to review applications today

The six-man committee formed to search for a new head coach for the Ghana senior men’s national team will meet today for the first time since closing applications for the job March 10.

Early this month, the Ghana FA Executive formed the Committee chaired by President Kwesi Nyantakyi to undertake the exercise of finding the best coach available to fill the space made vacant by the exit of Israeli Avram Grant.

An announcement by the Ghana FA said the Committee adopted a two-pronged approach to its search – headhunt and accepting applications from interested managers. The deadline for the latter has since ended.

There has been no official communication on the number of applicants and indeed the list though about 70 coaches have been reported in the media to have slapped in their CVs.

Starrsportsgh.com understands the six-man search team will meet Monday to take major decisions on the applications received.

Over the period, there has been a strong clamour for the return of an indigenous coach to manage the Black Stars with some government functionaries leading the calls.

Grant’s predecessor, Kwasi Appiah has been the most preferred choice in these calls.

Amidst the pressure, officials of the Ghana FA maintain they are looking out for the most qualified who can develop the national team and not colour.
