Accra, Aug. 8, GNA - Ghana's Black Starlets on Sunday spanked the Junior Wasps of Rwanda 5-1 in an international friendly match at the El-Wak Stadium in Accra.
The game served as a preparatory test for the Black Starlets ahead of their CAF U-17 Championship qualifier against Zambia in a fortnight, whilst the Rwandans, hosts of the continental championships used the encounter as part of their efforts towards building a formidable team for the tournament.
Striker Nasiru Mohammed was the hero of the Starlets as he scored four goals with the other two coming from the boots of John Nyamekye whilst Miko Justin grabbed a consolation for the Rwandans.
The Starlets took charge of the game after both teams laboured in search of their rhythm during the opening minutes.
On 13 minutes, Mohammed converted a spot kick after Adjei Boateng was fouled in the penalty area by his marker. Nyamekye doubled the lead on 29 minutes with a cool tap before
Mohammed grabbed a hat-trick with two goals within a spate of five minutes, from efforts in the 32nd and 37th minutes respectively to end the first half.
The Starlets resumed the second half with the same tempo for Nasiru to score his personal fourth on 53 minutes from a rebound after the Rwandan goalie Nzaora Marcel had spilled the ball on his path.
The Rwandans however managed to grab a consolation goal through Justin on the 62nd minute, when they capitalized on a loss of concentration by the Ghanaian backline to slot home the ball. The Junior Wasps who are on a training tour of the country will wrap up their preparations with a friendly against the Liberty U-20 side on Tuesday, August 10 at the Carl Reindorf Park, Dansoman, Accra.
