Ghana Beach Soccer Association has turned down an invitation to feature in an international Beach Soccer tournament slated for December 16, 2015, in Malindi, Kenya, due to financial shortcomings.

The five-nation tournament to be hosted by Kenya also includes Uganda, Zanzibar, South Africa as part of giving an international appeal to Beach Soccer across the continent.

President of the GBSA, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, confirmed the news to sports crusader after fruitlessly combing for financial assistance due to the untimely arrival of the invitation.

Ampofo Ankrah confirmed notifying the organisers of the tournament about his outfits unavailability due.

He, however, promised to use the setback as a motivation to drive Ghana Beach Soccer forward in the near future.

“We are disappointed and it is frustrating, but we need to forget about it and move on. I am sure we will get the breakthrough that we are looking for and corporate Ghana will continue to support us.

“It is unfortunate that the timing was quite precarious and in as much as we would have loved to go there and show what our boys can do, it is just not possible. Ampofo Ankrah told sports crusader.

He added, “the setback will only drive this association forward to work harder to ensure that the future of Ghana Beach Soccer gets brighter”.

Ghana Beach Soccer came to the limelight in 2011 with the national team coming up two years later. The 16 club GBSA league is survived mainly by headline sponsors, CAL Bank since 2011. The Black Sharks made it to the maiden CAF Beach Soccer AFCON in Seychelles in 2015.
