Black Princess players call on Sports Ministry to clear 2016 World Cup arrears

The Female National under 20 Female team, the Black Princess, has called on the Sports Ministry to come to their aid by clearing their World Cup appearance and bonus arrears. The disappointed ladies felt neglected and abandoned with their $8000 remuneration package still left unpaid one year after the FIFA 2016 U20 World Cup staged in Papua New Guinea.

The playing body was promised a handsome $12,000 after the tournament but has since been given a paltry $4,000, understands. The remaining two thirds of the package is yet to be cleared exactly one year after the tournament , with the puzzled and disappointed players wondering whether they will ever get their rightful financial reward.

Speaking to on condition of anonymity, a section of the playing staff felt neglected and maligned by the sports ministry, with no updates from any official even consoling them.

“We were promised $12,000 after the tournament but received 4000 dollars with the promise of receiving the remaining amount later on. We have since been left in the dark as to whether we will ever get what is due us or not.

“We felt someone has to lead our course but is like the Ministry and the FA have turned a deaf ear towards the whole issue. As to whether they are going to pay is not even clear before we can now think of when they are to pay us, if any at all. We are pleading with the leadership of our game to intervene and lead our course since we are demanding what is ours legally. Are we been denied what is ours or we have not passed through the right procedure in asking for it? We hope someone reading this story will be touched to lead the crusade for us”, one of the ladies old

The Black Princess were pitched in group C alongside United States, France and New Zealand in the ladies global podium staged in Papua New Guinea. The tournament was played between November 13 and December 3, 2016, with North Korea beating France to the prestigious FIFA World Cup crown in a 3-1 triumph.

The Princess were capatained By Rashida Abdul Rahman and had notable names like Pricila Adubea, Faustina Ampah, Ernestina Ambambila and Sandra Boakye. Masud Dramani was the head coach of the Ghanaian side at the tournament.
