Black Dragons to hold exhibition races this weekend

The national dragon boat team’s preparations for next month’s world championship in Hungary gets serious this weekend in Ada when the Black Dragons engage a host of clubs in exhibition races to test their strengths and readiness for the global fiesta.

The Black Dragons have been camping near the Volta Estuary in Ada for the past three weeks amid a massive improvement in their race time in all of 200m, 500m and 2000 metres ahead of their departure in the middle of July to the July 20-30 championships.

Now a test of how much racing skills they have imbibed and how ready they are to compete for glory beckons against 3 clubs from Volta and Greater Accra regions.

In the event, Azizakpey, Whuti and Real Ada United, 3 clubs which have also contributed paddlers to the Black Dragons will take on the national team in an expected highly competitive races at 200m, 500m and 2000m levels on Sunday.

“We want to know the strength of our team and also give us an insight of what impact the training we have been doing is having on the paddlers performances. So this exhibition against very good teams will give us foresight of our weakness and how to shape our team for the world tournament,” explained Farouk Moro, Technical Director of the Black Dragons.
