Black Chariots denied Germany trip

Black Chariots will not compete at the African Championship Black Chariots will not compete at the African Championship

Ghana’s National Male Wheelchair Basketball Team will not compete at the African Championship following the team’s spot being awarded to Kenya.

The competition is due to commence on November 17, 2017 in South Africa and the Black Chariots were expected to feature in the tournament for a place in the 2018 World Cup in Germany.

However, Ghana’s sports ministry requested that the team withdraws from the competition due to its inability to provide funds to cover the trip.

The team needed approximately $11,000 to cover expenses during its stay in the Southern African country.

The development is a devastating blow to the team’s efforts over the past year which saw the Black Chariots invited to play in competitions in Nigeria.

Team members were selected for the upcoming tournament from regional teams that competed in the National Unity Games held earlier this year.

Following several delays and appeals from Ghana’s Federation to the international body, the West African country’s spot was taken over by Kenya.

The Eastern African country gets the chance to compete against the likes of Angola, Zimbabwe, Nigeria and Egypt for the continent’s only spot at the World Cup.
