Binatone sponsors skate football for underprivileged

Interworld Products Ghana Ltd. (Binatone), dealers in electronic home Appliances as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and in collaboration with the Sports and Youth Development Organization (SYDO), has sponsored a skate football competition for the underprivileged.

The competition sponsored by Binatone was to offer underprivileged Ghanaian youth, who have been plagued with polio, other ailments and crippled through accidents and have now taken to the streets to beg for alms.

The sponsorship through SYDO is part of efforts to enable beggars to play Skate football on regular basis, to keep them off the streets.

Inter-world Products Ghana Limited initially donated 50 pieces of Binatone branded jerseys to the ‘‘Rolling Rockets’’, with a promise of weekly donations of an undisclosed amount of money for the provision of snacks and water for the players, during training sessions with the ultimate aim of relocating them from the streets and make them self-reliant.

The Group Managing Director of Binatone, Mr. Sunil Lalvani stated that Ghana has been very good and receptive to the growth of his products, hence the initiative was an opportunity to give back to society.

He noted that the underprivileged skate players abound with great talents, that deserve support to enable them get off the streets.

The Executive Director of SYDO, Mr. Albert Frimpong expressed gratitude to Binatone for its kind gesture to bring relief to the marginalized in society.

He said that Binatone is the only corporate institution to have extended a helping hand to it in assisting the poor since SYDO begun in 2005.

Frimpong disclosed that the overall objective of the competition is to help the team compete with others in the sub-region in the first ever African Cup of Nations, whilst helping to organize international competitions among Skate football players worldwide.

The director appealed to corporate entities to assist in any way possible to help bring relief to the less privileged in society, especially those risking through traffic to beg for alms.

He also expressed the hope that government will one day embrace skate soccer to put smiles on the faces of the youth.

The ‘‘Rolling Rockets’’ comprises of 25 active membership in Accra, 15 in Kumasi and several others across the country and has been active since 2009.
