Players of Berekum Chelsea have safely returned to their base in Berekum, a day after surviving a deadly armed robbery attack that claimed the life of their teammate, Dominic Frimpong.

The team was ambushed on Sunday, April 12, 2026, while travelling back from a Ghana Premier League fixture against Samartex. Armed men reportedly blocked the road and opened fire on the team bus, forcing players and officials to flee into nearby bushes in a desperate attempt to escape the gunfire.

Tragically, 20-year-old forward Dominic Frimpong was struck during the chaos and later died from his injuries in hospital, becoming the only confirmed fatality from the incident.

On Monday, April 13, 2026, a video circulating online showed the remaining squad members arriving back in Berekum. The players, who travelled in a bus provided by Bibiani Gold Stars after their own vehicle was damaged in the attack, appeared visibly shaken.

Some stepped down slowly, wincing in pain, while others wore blank, sorrowful expressions, a clear reflection of the trauma they had endured less than 24 hours earlier.

The mood was heavy, with grief and shock written across their faces following the loss of their teammate.
