Bereaved Gyan to miss Cape Verde friendly

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan will miss next week’s international friendly against Cape Verde due to the untimely death of his mother.

The unfortunate incident occurred at the Ghana National Association Teachers in Accra where Mrs Cecilia Love Mensah Gyan had gone to discuss her pension fund.

The 60-year-old drove her car into a pillar at the GNAT hall after she lost control of the steering wheel.

She was rushed to the Ridge hospital but was later pronounced death.

The news has come as a huge shock to the Black Stars skipper and many Ghanaians as well as the football world.

Gyan will withdraw from the friendly against Cape Verde in Lisbon, Portugal to attend to the pressing family disaster.

Strikers Kofi Nti Boakye, Yakubu Mohammed and Emmanuel Clottey are being considered as his replacement.

Gyan is expected to arrive in the country on Friday to promote his boxing syndicate which will have George Ashie and Emmanuel Tagoe battling it out for the WBA International Lightweight title on Saturday.
