The debate over who is the better midfielder between Jude Bellingham and Paul Pogba has resurfaced, with fans comparing two players whose styles, careers and achievements have made them stand out in different eras.

Both have operated as powerful, technically gifted midfielders, but their careers have followed very different paths.

Pogba’s peak came earlier.

The Frenchman established himself as a world-class midfielder during his first spell at Juventus, where he won four consecutive Serie A titles between 2012 and 2016, alongside two Coppa Italia trophies and two Italian Super Cups.

Pogba’s final season in Turin, 2015/16, produced his best numbers for the club, with 10 goals and 12 assists in all competitions. He was subsequently transferred to Manchester United for a then-world-record fee of €105 million.

Pogba was also part of France's 2018 World Cup-winning team and scored in the final against Croatia.

However, injuries and inconsistency later disrupted his career. His second spell at Manchester United did not reproduce the sustained level he had shown at Juventus, while a doping suspension further interrupted his career.

Bellingham, meanwhile, is still writing his story.

The Englishman broke through at Birmingham City as a teenager before moving to Borussia Dortmund and then Real Madrid in 2023.

At Madrid, he immediately became an important contributor, helping the club win the Champions League, La Liga and other major honours.

His international career has also developed rapidly. By June 2026, he had recorded 51 England appearances and eight international goals, alongside 17 goals in UEFA club competitions.

And Bellingham has added another remarkable chapter in 2026.

At the World Cup, he scored seven goals for England, setting a new record for an English men's player at a major tournament. England finished third, and Bellingham was subsequently voted England's Men's Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.

The comparison becomes more complicated when their styles are considered.

Pogba at his best was renowned for his passing range, physical power, long-range shooting, ball carrying and ability to dictate games from deeper midfield positions.

Bellingham offers a different combination: pressing, ball carrying, defensive work, late runs into the box, creativity and goals. His versatility has allowed him to operate both as a central midfielder and closer to the attack.

There is also an obvious difference in career stage.

Pogba's career has already been completed at the highest level, giving us a full picture of his peak and decline. Bellingham, at 23, is still adding chapters to his.

So, who is the better midfielder?

The statistics, trophies, playing styles and career trajectories provide plenty of material for both sides of the argument.
