Bekoe: Chelsea are Ghana’s Real Madrid

Eric Bekoe is not bothered at all with the star-studded competition at Berekum Chelsea, declaring his readiness to fight for his place in the first team of the side he refers to as the Real Madrid of Ghana football.

T he former league goal king sealed a 2-year contract with Chelsea last week after returning from an injury-plagued stint in Egypt and is raring to go with the ‘galacticos’ amid media reports an assistant coach of the club has said the striker’s playing time is not assured. “I see Chelsea like Real Madrid now with lots of good players and only hard work would get you a place in the team. What the technical team also have to know is that some players are bought into team not for the soccer alone but for example to pull crowd for the team in terms of advertising and marketing.

“But I know for sure that hard work pays so I would work hard to win the heart of the technical team and also most important of all, the fans because without the fans football can’t be complete. I would put in every bit effort to take the team to bigger heights, Insha Allah,” Bekoe told 90 MINUTES exclusively.

Bekoe who begin training with Chelsea on Tuesday, is also looking to impress Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah: “It’s every players dream to feature for his nation and I know the technical team in post now too have played football before so if you’re doing well, they shall surely call you to play. So I’m going to concentrate on my training because like I say, hard work pays!”
