The horrifying details emerging from the armed robbery attack on Bechem Chelsea’s team bus continue to paint a chilling picture of a night that turned deadly on the Goaso-Bibiani road.
The attack, which claimed the life of promising young footballer Dominic Frimpong, occurred as the team returned from a Ghana Premier League clash against Samartex on Sunday, April 12, 2026.
Armed men reportedly blocked the road and opened fire on the bus, forcing players and officials to flee into nearby bushes for safety.

Obed Owusu, who was among those on board, has now given a first-hand account of the chaos that followed.
“They were firing at us, so everyone left the bus and started running into the bush,” he recalled.
But escape did not immediately bring safety, even after help appeared to arrive, confusion and darkness made it difficult to feel secure.
“We sat in the bush for 45 minutes, and they were still firing at us while we were in the bush. Police arrived, but I was scared to get out of my hiding place because I didn’t even know if they were police officers, as it was dark,” he added.
It took the intervention of familiar faces to finally guide him out.
“Fortunately for me, I met some officials of Bibiani GoldStars who accompanied me to the car.”
It was only after regrouping that the true tragedy became clear. The victim was later identified as Dominic Frimpong, who had suffered a gunshot wound to the head during the ambush.
“When we got to the car, I was told that one of us had been hit by a bullet. They brought us to Bibiani; that’s when we got to know it was Dominic Frimpong and that he was at the hospital,” Owusu continued.
There were initial attempts to transfer him for advanced treatment, but hope quickly faded.
“They said they wanted to even transfer him to Komfo Anokye, but we were later told he couldn’t survive,” he added.
Frimpong later succumbed to his injuries, becoming the only reported fatality in an attack that has since sent shockwaves across Ghanaian football and reignited concerns over the safety of teams travelling on the country’s highways.
