President of the Ghana Beach Volleyball Association (GBVA), Mr Paul Atchoe says Ghana is ready to host the zone three beach volleyball tournament which will begin today, August 20, 2015.

According to him, the tournament will serve as preparatory grounds for the upcoming All Africa Games (AAG) in Congo next month.

The said tournament has been pinned to start on August 20, 2015 to August 26, 2015 in Accra.

Speaking to the media, Mr Atchoe said invited countries for the competition are; Cote D’ivoire, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Niger, Burkina Faso and host country Ghana.

He said Ghana’s beach volleyball team has been training towards the African games and the association has also been working hard to get the technical team up to date with the current rules of the game.

To this effect, they organized a coaching course for the technical team from the all the regions in the country, the security services and the ministry of education as well as the various clubs in the country.

Mr Atchoe explained that the competition is a zonal competition which is hosted by the member countries on regular bases.

“It was the turn for Ghana to host it last year but we were not able to host because of the Ebola epidemic and also we have fashioned it in such a way that it will coincide with our preparation of all the All African Games,” he said.

He added that team Ghana will be able to showcase their qualities to Ghanaians as they gear up for the Games saying “the most interesting part is that Nigeria will be part of the competition and we are the two countries who have qualified in our zones for the African games.”
