Beach Soccer: Ghana ranked 8th in Africa

Ghana’s Beach Soccer Team have been ranked 8th in Africa after maintaining their 60th position in the World.

Rapidly emerging Ghana saw no change in the latest Beach Soccer rankings released by the Beach Soccer Federation World Wide (BSWW).

Nicknamed the ”Black Sharks”, team Ghana is ranked 8th in Africa ahead of South Africa and Algeria but remain 60th in the world after an overall point accumulation of 85.

The inability to move significantly on the log can be attributed to the country’s less involvement in external competitions since the last ranking was released in March 2014. But despite the challenges facing beach soccer development in the West African state, it still boasts of two concurrent leagues.

In an interview with the President of the Ghana Beach Soccer Association, Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, he expressed delight at the news and called for corporate support for the sport to ensure that we reach higher heights.

“It is true that the sport is yet to receive the needed attention like football but I think the earlier we look at it as a country, the better. Brazil, hitherto, was not interested in the sports but now, it is the next to football. In fact, if we look at it very well, areas like Keta and the other places along the sea will also develop”, Yaw said.

“I have had some talks with the minister and I am convinced that he will do a lot to help Ghana sports. So far, I must confess, I am in love with Honourable Mahama Ayariga for the way he is attending to all the sporting disciplines one after the other. I know it will get to the turn of Beach Soccer too”, he added.

The National Beach Soccer League is expected to kick-off on the 9th of August, 2014 which will be preceded by a clean-up exercise on Thursday, 7th August, 2014 at the various venues.
