Bawku Keep Fit Club marks 1st anniversary

Bawku (U/E), Sept. 24, GNA - The deputy Bawku Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Alhassan Fuseini, has said that the non-availability of recreational facilities in the Municipality has contributed to the frequent conflicts in the area.

He said when such facilities were available for social interactions by the people, the incidence of mistrust and misconceptions among the various ethnic groupings can be minimised.

Mr. Fuseini who is also the Chairman of the Bawku Keep Fit Club (BKFC), said this on Sunday at Bawku as part of activities to mark the First Anniversary of the Club.

He said the Club has served as a platform for all the ethnic groups to fraternise, adding that each of the groups have now acquired a better knowledge of each other which needs to be sustained for nation building. Mr. Fuseini said the interactions has also encouraged the other residents of the Municipality to disabuse the erroneous misconceptions about the inhabitants in the society and invited investors to invest in the area to bring a relief to the alarming rate of poverty in the area. He said the Club was also collaborating with the Assembly to source funds to establish a Club house to boost constant interactions of the people through fitness, which was necessary to ensure efficiency of workers in the area.

The Fun games were in football, volleyball and cycling among groups as the BKFC, Catholic Youth Organisation (CYO) and the Gbewaa Training College (GTC).

The BKFC's men team beat their counterparts from CYO and GTC by two goals to nil each to lift the trophy whilst GTC ladies beat CYO and BKFC by one and two goals each to also pick up the women's cup. In the volleyball event, CYO ladies beat BKFC ladies by two sets to one to take the cup whilst BKFC men beat CYO men by two straight sets. The cycling event was won by BKFC. 24 Sept. 06
