Barcelona supporters in Kumasi salute team

Kumasi, May 28, GNA - Supporters of Spanish giants, Barcelona F/C in Kumasi, on Wednesday night went into wild jubilation soon after the Club recorded a 2-0 win over their English counterparts, Manchester United in the grand finale of the European Champions League played in Italy. A goal in each half by Samuel Eto'o and dare-devil Lionel Messi helped catapult the Catalans to lift the giant trophy at stake at the expense of the defending champions, bringing to three their wins in the Champions League after victories in 1996 and 2006.

The Kumasi-based supporters clad in Barcelona colours, could not hide their joy as they paraded some of the principal streets amidst singing and dancing in praise of the success of the Club. Kwame Mozingi, an ardent supporter who spoke with GNA Sports, described the Barcelona team as the best in recent times against the backdrop of their goal scoring abilities, quality of players, team work and tenacity of purpose in crucial games.

"We could have beaten Manchester United by an avalanche of goals but may be the players decided to be soft on them especially, in the latter part of the game".

Agya Yaw Owusu, who painted h is face in the colours of Barcelona, praised the referee for fair officiating and the players of both sides for their comportment to ensure an incident-free grand finale. He however, advised Man. United's player-maker, Christiano Ronaldo to put a check on his temper since he easily gets angry and cited an incident in the finals where he nearly had confrontation with a Barcelona player after the said player approached him to demand why he had fouled him.

Miss Abigail Akyiaa was full of praise for Coach Pep Guardiola for achieving the feat with the Barcelona team and urged management to motivate him to stay with the Club for continuity sake. Meanwhile, some Manchester supporters have surprisingly commended the Barcelona club for the good job that they demonstrated to win the trophy and further lambasted their idol club for their lukewarm attitude towards the match. They said the club's performance on the day was far below expectation and urged the team's owners to strive to off-load players who were fed up in playing for the club. 28 May 09
