Former Ghana youth international goalkeeper Maxwell Banahene has returned to action after a six-year injury induced absence.
The captain of the 2001 Black Satellites squad has now started training with some English lower division clubs to help him regain full fitness.
Banahene is keen on returning home to play for some of the top-flight clubs in Ghana before seeking a deal in England.
Banahene suffered a serious right knee injury in 2002 and travelled to England for treatment but abandoned it two years later due to lack of funds.
But he returned to the surgeon’s in the European country after Fulham defender joined the English Premier League and offered to help defray his expensive medical expenses.
“Thank God and John Pantsil that I am now feeling okay and ready to kick and play some good football like I used to do,” Banahene told Ghanasoccernet.
“Pantsil has shown that he is a true brother and in times of great difficulty he came to aim and foever I will be grateful to him.
“He has even introduced me to some big clubs in Europe so I want to return home and play for a good team before returning when I regain my match fitness.”
The agile goalkeeper dazzled the world with his super performance at the Under-20 World Youth tournament in Argentina in 2001 where the Black Satellites won the silver medal.
Goalkeeper Banahene also captained Ghana’s Starlets squad which emerged runners-up at the Under-17 African tournament in Ethiopia (1998) and the second runner-up at the Under-17 World Football tournament in New Zealand (1999)
