Head coach of Asante Kotoko Charles Akunnor has insisted that the Baba Yara Sports Stadium is not up to international standards.

The stadium has not seen any renovation since 2008 after hosting the Africa Cup of Nations.

Concerns were raised on the nature of the pitch prior to the game against ZESCO United on Wednesday with CAF even issuing a warning to Kotoko to improve the pitch or get their match moved to another venue.

Despite the huge sums of money accrued on matchdays especially when Asante Kotoko play at home, much has not been done to improve the facility to reach international standards.

“The Baba Yara Stadium is not at the level of international standards”, C.K Akunnor told the media about the state of the stadium.

Green Grass Technology were contracted to put the pitch in shape prior to the game against ZESCO United. The pitch has seen a bit of improvement, but Akunnor is still calling for more improvement.

“The field needs a lot of improvement because we need it for National games too. I won’t say the pitch has any negative effect on our performance”, he added.
