Ghana’s Abdul Rahman Baba helped his side Augsburg to defeat Bayern Munich 1-0 at the Allianz-Arena on Saturday.
Baba, who exhausted the full duration of the game, was at his usual best as he kept it tidy at the rear.
It was another terrible occasion for the German champions who suffered their first blow in the 13th minute after goalkeeper Pepe Reina was shown a red card. That forced Pep Guardiola to throw in regular goalkeeper Manuel Neuer in place of captain Philip Lahm.
The away side failed to take the early advantage after Paul Verhaegh was unable to score from the spot in the 15th minute.
But Raul Marcelo Bobadilla popped up to wrap up all three points for Markus Weinzierl’s side in the 71st minute as Bayern recorded their fourth straight defeat in all completions.
The win leaves Augsburg right outside the top as they lie 5th on the Bundesliga table with two matches left to end the season. They could however be toppled by Schalke 04 if Roberto Di Matteo’s side are able to beat FC Cologne on Sunday afternoon.
For Baba, the season has been remarkable after featuring in 29 out of the 32 Bundesliga games.
His good outings have not only earned him a place in the Black Stars starting eleven, but has ended up on the radar of several top sides across Europe.
The former Kotoko player remains one of the best-performing Ghanaian players abroad as the European calendar draws to a conclusion. Related
