Morocco have cancelled their previously announced international friendly against Ghana, which was scheduled for October 4, 2026, at the Grand Stade de Tanger, according to reports.

The fixture had been confirmed earlier this month by both the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and the Ghana Football Association (GFA), with the match set to take place in Tangier as part of the September-October international window.

The cancellation comes after preparations for the game had already progressed, with Morocco opening ticket sales for the encounter on September 27 and subsequently opening media accreditation for journalists covering the match.

Ghana had been due to travel to Morocco after completing their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying assignments against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia.

The proposed friendly was expected to give Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz another opportunity to assess his squad against one of Africa’s leading national teams.

Morocco had also included the Ghana game in their programme following their AFCON qualifying fixtures.

The cancellation means the Black Stars will now have to await clarity on their next international assignment following the end of their AFCON qualifying commitments.

The two nations had been set to renew a rivalry that stretches back several decades, with Morocco winning the last encounter between them, a 1-0 victory at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
