B/A MTN- Suncity Fest 2016, Ends at Berekum

Brong Ahafo region had its last laugh at the Berekum Golden City Park, when the annual MTN – Suncity Inter - Community Soccer gala took place on Saturday. Eight teams comprising: Nyamebekyere 'B', Senase, Mombasa, Koraso – Kantanka, Disasempa, Kutre No. 2, Jamdede and Continental, participated in the one – day competition. Nyamebekyere 'B', beat Continental 2 – 1 in the finals to lift the trophy; while Diasempa and Koraso – Knatanka took the 3rd and 4tth places respectively. Michael Aseidu of Nyamebekyere 'B' emerged the overall Best Player, while Seth Frimpong of Continental and Nyamebekyere's Okyere Wilson won the Best Goal Keeper and Top Scorer Awards respectively. Commenting on the event, MTN's Financial Manager, in charge of the Northern Business District of Ghana, Mr Ronald Anderson, said he was impressed at the well-organized tournament, and hoped the event would grow stronger in the years ahead. He was of the view that judging from the interest and enthusiasm generated from the region, backed by good organization, the event could be expanded to feature the various district in the region, instead of the few selected communities. "All things being well, the event could be expanded to an inter-district gala competition" he opined. Mr. Anderson intimated that the intent of soccer was to foster unity, friendliness and harmony and peaceful co – existence, and since these fall in line with MTN's business principles, they would continue to support this worthy cause. On his part, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Suncity Radio, Mr. Ransford Antwi, said his station was committed to the development and transformation of the Brong Region through radio and sports hence their collaboration with MTN over the years, to develop grassroots soccer. He said this year's festival which coincided with MTN's 20th Anniversary, Suncity Radio's 3rd Anniversary and the 5th Anniversary of the inter-community soccer gala, was quite fruitful and successful, and commended MTN and all other stakeholders of the event, for their positive contributions. Mr Antwi used the occasion to appeal for support from other corporate bodies and individual philanthropists to emulate MTN , prosecute and sustain this developmental agenda for the Brong Ahafo Region
