Azumah Resources donates footballs to Basic schools

Wa, Jan. 21, GNA - Azumah Resources Ghana Limited, a mineral exploration company operating in the Upper West Region has donated 11 footballs worth GH¢500 to the Wa East District Education Directorate to be distributed among six Basic schools in the District.

The beneficiary schools include Baayiri cluster of Schools, Chaggu and Chaggu-Paala cluster of Schools, Duu L/A Primary School, Jangfian Primary School and Danyoukura Roman Catholic Primary School. Mr Vitus Ngaanuma, Community Relations Manager of the Company said at the presentation ceremony in Wa on Friday that the gesture was part of the company's effort to assist in making the schools attractive to retain the children and to enable them develop their sporting talents whilst at school.

He noted that the company's goal was based on its firm believe that the talent of children could best be developed at the early stages of their development and education.

Mr Ngaanuma recalled that the company in June 2010 donated a total of 150 footballs to several Basic schools in the Region and promised to continue with the gesture to develop sports at the grassroots level. The Community Relations Manager urged the District Education Directorate to supervise the children well to prevent them from spending their time playing only football to the neglect of their academic work. He said the company was committed to developing the talents of the youth in all aspects of their life and advised the education authorities to identify other areas of need for the necessary assistance from the company.

Mr Cletus Kpienta, Wa East Deputy Director of Education who received the footballs on behalf of the schools, thanked Azumah Resources for the gesture and said the balls would be distributed to the beneficiary schools.

He promised that they would supervise the children well to enable them derive maximum benefit from the gift.
