Ayariga makes Azumah Nelson Sports Complex priority project

Minister of Youth and Sports Mahama Ayariga has promised to commit GH¢1 million of his Ministry’s resources to the refurbishment of the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex.

He said he will award the project to the engineering regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces.

“Uplifting of this facility will be my first project as a Minister of Youth and Sports,” Mr Ayariga said on Thursday, July 17 when he toured the seemingly derelict facility in North Kaneshie, Accra.

He was joined on the inspection tour by the Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, Ras Mubarak, and other functionaries of the Youth and Sports Ministry.

Mr Ayariga noted that the facility, which has a football pitch, tennis and basket ball courts, will be made available to colts football teams.

He said he will immediately engage the Armed Forces for work to begin.

Formerly known as the Kaneshie Sports Complex, the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex was built in the 1970s to contribute to the production of sportsmen and women for the country.

It is a multi-sports facility that can host a wide range of indoor disciplines.
