Awinbono gets title shot

Bradley Pryce will make the third defence of his Commonwealth light middleweight title against inexperienced Ghanaian Thomas Awinbono. He has a record of 6-1-1 (3 KOs) and has never fought outside Ghana.

The bout will be in front of a huge crowd at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium on the undercard of Joe Calzaghe v Peter Manfredo Jr (7 April).

Newport's Pryce, 26, has a record of 23-6 (14 KOs) and could challenge for the British title next.

He has been nominated to face champion Jamie Moore by the British Boxing Board of Control.

If Moore chooses instead to pursue a world title opportunity, Pryce, trained by Enzo Calzaghe in his Newbridge gym, could challenge for a vacated British belt
