Awal Mohammed refused visa for Ghana friendly

Defender Awal Mohammed was unable to join Ghana’s squad for the friendly international against Cape Verde on Wednesday.

The Maritzburg FC player could not secure a visa to join the Black Stars in Lisbon for the pre-Africa Cup of Nations warm-up match.

Mohammed was handed his debut Ghana call-up after impressive displays in the South African Absa Premiership.

He has a remote chance of making Ghana’s squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

“I feel a bit disappointed but I have taken it in good faith,” the former Kotoko centre-back told MTNFootball.com

“I have spoken to the coach and he has assured me that if I continue playing good, I can get another opportunity.”

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah wants to assess the fringe players before naming his final 23-man squad for the 19 January- 10 February tournament.
