Atta Mills Is Honorary Citizen Of Worcestor

At a very colorful ceremony at the Auditorium of Clark University in the of City Worcestor, Massachusetts, on Saturday, John Evans Atta Mills, former Vice President of the Republic of Ghana and currently the NDC’s Presidential Candidate going into the next general elections, was made an Honorary Citizen of Worcestor.

The NDC Presidential Candidate, who is on a two week tour of some States in the United States to touch base with members of his party as well as Ghanaians across the political divide, was at Worcestor as a guest of the Ghanaian community in general, and the Massachusetts Chapter of the NDC in particular.

Presenting the Key of the City to the NDC Presidential Candidate, the Mayor, Konstantina Lukes, said the City of Worcestor was honored to play host to an august visitor in the person of John Evans Atta Mills, and added that she takes a keen interest in matters concerning Ghana because of the large Ghanaian community in Worcestor, and so has been monitoring from afar and knows how the NDC Presidential Candidate is a highly respected person.

“I have read a lot about you, and your people here have a very high regard and respect for you so I am honored to present you with the keys to the City” the Mayor said.

In jest, the Mayor said the Key can open all doors in the city except the door of the treasury.

John Evans Atta Mills, in response, thanked the Mayor for the honor done him and Ghana.

“I am humbly honored by this very touching gesture and on behalf of myself, the Ghanaian community in Worcestor, and Ghana at large, I thank you for making me an Honorary Citizen of this beautiful city of yours” the NDC Presidential Candidate said.

“I know that if the Ghanaian community here were not conducting themselves properly, there is no way I would be receiving the key to this city so I dedicate this honor done me to all Ghanaians living in Worcestor” the NDC Presidential Candidate added.

The Lieutenant Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Timothy Murray, was represented by his Liaison Officer, Ron Bell.

Timothy Murray took office this year as the first black Lt Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Also at the Auditorium of Clark University, John Evans Atta Mills interacted with a cross section of the Ghanaian Community and shared his ideas with them as to the way forward for not only the NDC, but Ghana in general.

Key members of the NPP in Worcestor were present at the gathering and during the question and answer session, Mr. Tony Adade, the NPP Chairman, asked John Evans Atta Mills what his vision for Ghana, is.

Responding, the learned professor and legal luminary said that his main vision, is for Ghana to once again be the united country that Kwame Nkrumah wanted it to be.

“The, hatred, division and polarization is not going to help us and Atta Mills as president would make sure that all Ghanaians are brought on board to shape the destiny of the country” he said.

“The unnecessary politicization of every little matter would not help our motherland and if we don’t put a stop to it, one of these days we would wake up to realize that even kenkey would be labeled NDC or NPP and when we get to that stage, Ghana would be tinkering with civil strife and it would mean that we would not have anything to call our country” the NDC Presidential Candidate added.

Earlier in the day, the NDC Presidential Candidate was in the studios of WCCA TV in Worcestor, where he was interviewed for about an hour.

Show Hostess, Mavis Akoto (formerly of Joy FM), fired questions that bordered on the, economy, health, education, national security, job creation, the drug menace, the unacceptable contract killing phenomenon and other related matters.

On the specific issue of whether the NDC Presidential Candidate, if elected President, would spend his time harassing his political opponents, John Evans Atta Mills’ response was an emphatic NO. According to the NDC Presidential Candidate, the issue of harassing his political opponents is not going to be in his manifesto and since he would be voted into the high office based on his manifesto, there is no way he would go against it.

“When the people give you the mandate to rule for 4 years, it is such a short time that it would not make sense wasting it on trivialities. By all means, the laws of the land will be made to work and those who have to answer questions would do so but it would not take Atta Mils and his government to decide who the laws must deal with and who the laws must not deal with. There would be justice for all and no group would be above the law” the law luminary said.

John Evans Atta Mills extended his door-to-door campaign to the City of Worcestor as he stopped over at some Ghanaian shops and restaurants where he spent time sharing ideas with the people and also listening to their advice and genuine criticism of some past happenings.

John Evans Atta Mills assured the people that an Atta Mills Presidency would usher in a New Ghana which would bring hope to Ghanaians and restore to the country its lost pride and glory.

The NDC Presidential Candidate on Sunday worshipped at the Worcestor Methodist Church where special prayers were said for him. John Evans Atta Mill took the opportunity to meet with Ghanaians in the church and prayed for God to continue to bless them in their every endeavour and commended them for their positive contribution to the City of Worcestor and told them to continue to fly high the flag of Ghana.

Among those present at Worcestor to give support to the NDC Presidential Candidate were, Alhaji Hudu Yahaya, NDC Vice Chairman, Professor Danso Boafo of the Morehouse Medical School in Atlanta, Dr. Cadman Atta Mills, formerly of the United Nations and World Bank and brother of John Evans Atta Mills, Dr. J.S Annan who works with the UN, and his wife, New York Attorney, William Antwi, lawyer Ebby Konney, Koby Boahen, Chairman of the NDC in North America, Osborn Sam, key member of the NDC in New York, Koku Anyidoho, In-charge of John Evans Atta Mills’ Communications outfit, and some party faithful from New York New Jersey, Atlanta, Maryland, Delaware and Canada.
