Atsu: World Cup is a dream come true

Ghana international Christian Atsu cannot hide his joy over his maiden World Cup appearance, saying is a dream come true.

The 22-year-old playmaker is surprised how far he has come and looks forward to the global football fiesta in Brazil.

“I find it difficult to comprehend that I have become internationally so young, I dreamt of playing in the national team and World Cup. I saw many of the Black Stars players always play on television when I was at the Feyenoord Academy. And now a World Cup? I am grateful,” Atsu told Nos.

“I come from a poor and humble family. I sold fish at the market to earn money for the family. I even sold plastic bags at the market. Back home, it was not a happy time but with help from God the happiness has come.”

He added: “I always remember what my mother told me, there are many people working hard but they don’t go forward why? It is because they don’t have faith in God. I have faith in Him and He has been helping me.”

Atsu, who won the Vitesse Arnhem player of the season, will be one of Ghana's players to watch at the Mundial.
