Ghana international Christian Atsu has expressed his delight at the growing number of his compatriots in the Premier League after Jordan Ayew sealed a five-year deal with Aston Villa on Monday.
The Bournemouth winger and Leicester City’s defender Jeffery Schlupp were the only Ghana players in the English top flight last season, however, the signing of Andre Ayew and Jordan Ayew by Swansea and Aston Villa respectively increases the number of regular Black Stars players in the EPL to four.
“I want to see more Ghanaians in the English Premier League. I think it will help improve the national team. I want to see that everyone is successful here in order to help the Black Stars make progress,” Astu told Starr FM.
“This is the most exciting league in the world and it is every player’s dream to play here, so I wish my countrymen would keep coming here,” he said.
Atsu joined Chelsea in 2013 but has failed to command first team action and has been sent on two loan spells to Vitesse Arheim and Everton.
The 23-year-old will be embarking on his third loan stint at newly-promoted Bournemouth this season. He has been capped 40 times for Ghana and has scored nine goals.
