Former Ashanti Gold and Black Stars striker, Augustine Arhinful has stated that he is not surprised with the Miners league title triumph adding that they might defend their trophy next season.
The Obuasi based club ended their 19 years league title drought last Sunday on match day 29 of the First Capital Plus Bank Premier League against WAFA at the Obuasi Len Clay stadium when Emmanuel Osei’s 71st minute spot kick won the day for the Miners.
It has been a difficult season for Ashanti Gold but they maintained their composure as they kept their first position right from match day 1.
And Augustine Arhinful who during his days with the Miners won the league and top scorer’s title with the club (then known as Obuasi Goldfields) in the 1993/1994 season has stated that he is not surprised with the Miners league title success.
“The campaign has not been bad at all and I am not surprised to see how they have overcome the various challenges to become champions of Ghana. We should not be surprised if they win the league again next season but it will depend on how well the management keeps the current team,” Arhinful told TV3.
Ashanti Gold will officially be crowned as champions coming Sunday in their last league game against Great Olympics at the Accra sports stadium.
