Ashford Tetteh may not withstand criticisms – Abra-Appiah

Former Premier League Board Chairman, Welbeck Abra-Appiah has told critics of the body his successor Ashford Tetteh Oku may not withstand their constant flak.

Abra-Appiah who served as the head of the PLB for a decade was censured constantly by a section of the media.

The former Okwahu United financier at a point almost sued some media houses and journalists for constant attacks on his ‘personality’.

He believes what he absorbed in his 10 years at the PLB, Ashford Tetteh may not withstand it and has called on all and sundry to stop bashing and support the new Chairman to captain the ship.

“It hasn’t been easy, honestly, it hasn’t been easy. Some of these things are such that if you want your football to develop you need to have first and famous, infrastructure,” Abra-Appiah told TV3 Ghana.

“Years ago, before the 10 years that I have been at the chairman of the PLB, there were series of governments which came where the then minister for Youth and Sports said that every year they were going to put an infrastructure like what we have at El Wak for each of the regions, but that idea never materialized.

“It never came up. It is a historical fact. It has not been easy because there are no funds to support a lot of the projects of which we wished to have brought on the table.

“Despite all these people were insulting me just for it’ s sake. I almost sued them but for advice and their own pleading I had to let go. Ashford Tetteh may not take it.

“The bashing must stop. Abra-Appiah took them into the extent that some time ago, I even wanted to sue some people who were just insulting me for the sake of it. But upon the advice and upon their own pleading, I had to stop.

“T.T ( Ashford Tetteh) might not be able to stand that, he might not, I am not saying he cannot but he might not be able to stay strong enough to accept some of these things,” He said.

Abra-Appiah served as vice chairman of the association from 1993 to 2004 before he was appointed the chairman of the body by Kwesi Nyantakyi in 2005.
