Ashantigold Hold Hearts

League leaders, Ashantigold played a determined game to hold Accra Hearts of Oak to a goalless draw in their match played at the Tema Sports Stadium.

Playing their first game at their newly-adopted home ground, Hearts, who were determined to appease their fans as a result of their chain of drawn games in recent times, were a delight to watch as they took full control of the game, which was delayed for about 20 minutes as a result of a dispute about where the inspection of the two teams should take place.

With Eric Gawu, Joseph Tagoe and Reuben Senyo spearheading the attack, Hearts pinned their opponents to their own half, earning the first corner-kick of the game in the 15th minute, but it was wasted. Anthony Annan, combining effectively with Gawu upfront nearly found the net but his great shot was expertly saved by goalkeeper George Owu in goal for Ashantigold in the 29th minute.

The game from then on became balanced, as both teams tried to snatch the leader, which did not come till half time. On resumption, both teams exhausted their permitted substitutions as they changed their pattern of play, but tried as they did, they could not find the net.

Disaster struck Ashantigold in the 82nd minute when Nasir Lamine was shown the red card for a second book-able offence but Hearts failed to capitalize on their advantage.
