AshantiGold coach Bashiru Hayford is cautiously optimistic his side can break their 20-year league title drought.
The Miners enter match day 22 of the FCPPL away to Heart of Lions with a 7-point lead. Berekum Chelsea follow at second place on 33 points.
AshGold have been on top of the table since match day 2 and have been pleasantly enjoying fluctuations in points gap every other match day and the experienced gaffer is less perturbed about the trend as his side continue to lead.
"When you look at it in general, we are making a headway,” coach Hayford who returns to the venue he used to work as head coach a few years back said.
”If we have stretched the lead by 7 points, then we are cruising towards the winning of the league but I'm not saying it is automatic. No!.
”Anything at all can happen but we are going to guide against things that will may be prevent us from winning the league. I think we are on course."
AshantiGold are faced with yet another tricky away tie against a Lions team who are vowing to right the wrongs of their second round record from Sunday. The Kpando-based side have had a poor second round and currently lie 14th on the log.
