AshGold eliminated from Confederation Cup

Obuasi (Ash), April 3, GNA - AshGold Sporting Club on Sunday beat Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia 2-1 in the second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup encounter at the Len Clay Stadium at Obuasi. The results was however not enough to secure AshGold's qualification to the next round of the competition as the miners, who lost 0-3 in the first leg in Tunisia, bowed out on a 2-4 aggregate much to the disappointment of the teeming supporters.

The Tunisians stunned the home team in the initial stages as they exhibited good tactical discipline in most departments of the game to end the first half barren.

On resumption, Etoile concentrated their attack on the flanks and succeeded in getting a series of set pieces of which one resulted in a goal in the 58th minute as Lamjed Chenoudi connected home an Adel Cheelis corner-kick.

This gingered the visitors to probe for more goals but AshGold remained resolute in defence to ward off the surging runs upfront from the Tunisians.

Theophilus Anobaah of AshGold snatched the equalizer for his side in the 67th minute after taking advantage of a goalmouth scramble to slot home a thunderbolt.

Anobaah again shot his side into the lead in the 74th minute in a counter attack.

Just as AshGold were warming themselves into the match, Etoile regrouped in midfield and defence and defended gallantly till the end of the match.
