Obuasi, June 24, GNA - Obuasi AshantiGold improved on their position on the Premiership league table when they chalked an emphatic 2-0 victory over visiting Berekum Arsenal in their 25th mid-week encounter at the Len Clay Sports Stadium at Obuasi. Both sides played an uncompromising game right from the kick-off but it was AshGold who had the upper hand as they scored the first goal in the 43rd minute through Emmanuel Adjetey's free-kick just outside the penalty box.
Frederick Quayson headed home AshGold's second goal also from an Adjetey's free-kick in the 44th minute. When the second half resumed it was still AshGold who dominated play but failed to increase the tally.
Arsenal's Kwaku Sarpong was red-carded by referee Jonathan Tetteh for a second bookable offence in the 67th minute but the home team failed to take advantage of the numerical disadvantage as they concentrated their play in the midfield to end the match on a high note for the Miners.
